Do I need to take the Physics 211 placement exam?

Physics 211 and 212, the introductory calculus based physics courses, have very large student attrition rates. To try and improve student retention, the Physics Department has a placement exam that is designed to identify students at risk of failure. Students that do poorly on the placement exam are required to first pass PHYS 130, a one semester prep course that covers what should have been learned in a typical high school physics class.

EVERYONE wishing to take PHYS 211 is REQUIRED to satisfy these prerequisites, and provide documentation if requested. If you do not satisfy the physics prerequisites, then you must take the departmental placement test.

Students who fail to satisfy these prerequisites will be dropped from PHYS 211.
